White Hot

Summer is officially here and that means ’tis the season to wear white!  We love crisp whites and breezy creams during the hottest months of the year and since we are Ivory and Olive, we discussed which shade of white looks best on our different skin tones.  Choosing the right shade of white isn’t as daunting as choosing the right shade of foundation, but the wearing the wrong white may wash you out instead of make you stand out.  Here are the basic principles, but remember it’s not the gospel. It’s Ivory and Olive.

If you have very fair skin, like milky white porcelain perfection, look for warm shades of white with a yellow undertone.  It will add warmth and glow to your beautiful color.  Look for colors described as antiqued white or alabaster.  A stark white may wash you out.

For Ivories, or for light-medium skin with pink undertones, choose a white with a creamy ivory with rich yellow tones to keep you from looking too flushed.  Colors that are described as eggshell or cream usually have a warm tone.

For Olives, or yellow undertones, cool whites or whites with a pink tone will balance things out and give you a dewy and fresh look.  Look for colors like champagne or nude or blush.  You can also wear a diamond white which is less stark than pure white.

For dark skin, you basically get to wear every shade of white! Bright white will dazzle on your skin.  Keep in mind your undertones and if you have a strong yellow tone, try to stay away from warmer whites with yellow tones.

When wearing white on white, we recommend steering clear of small children, spaghetti and red wine (out of personal experience).  We also recommend Spanx…highly recommend.
