Back in the early 90′s, acrylic nails were my thing. Okay, they were my thing until 2005 but who’s judging? I may have rocked acrylics for longer than I should have but I have a hard time moving on. When I didn’t have 2 pennies to rub together to get my nails done, I still found a way. Her name was Veronica. She was a dear friend and a nail tech. She tried to get me out of my coral trend for years but I have mentioned that I have a hard time moving on, right? I can’t remember the exact shade but I think it was Cajun Shrimp or My Chihuahua Bites by OPI. Whichever one it was, it was shiny, glossy and hot. My acrylics were so sharply squared off that they could be classified as weapons. In today’s world, TSA would probably flag me, then proceed with a cavity search based on my fierce manicure and young adult bad attitude. Sometimes I even rocked a little charm pierced through my pinkie nail. Yeah, I just admitted it. Times and trends changed and coral nail polish ran its course with me. I wore it so much that it left a scar. However, enough time has passed so I picked up a bottle of coral polish the other day and suddenly realized why I loved it so much. It put me in a warm-weather state of mind. It made my hands look like I had just vacationed in the South of France.
Essie Watermelon is a juicy pink-ish, red-ish glossy shade of yum. Have a look-y:

This is the color I needed to get myself out of my dark, vampy rut and into bright, cheery fun. Moving on is hard to do and eventually trends come full circle, but for now I’ll just take my Watermelon with a side of natural nails. 86 the nail charm.
What’s your throwback shade?

Lol I am dying with the nail charm! This post is hilarious! Love the color!
Tara, does that mean you rocked one too? This is a safe place. You can admit it
My mom used to have a nail kit to pierce her nails. She had long nails and a lot of times she would try to pierce them they would either break or break the next day. She loved them though. She has a whole drawer full of polish from the 80′s and 90′s mostly reds, brick reds, and browns. I never understood the fascination she had with getting her nails done, but now as a mom I appreciate the quiet alone time and having something nice to show for it.
Well this is the Veronica you all read about…..lol I have one customer that still wears a charm so you changed sooner than she did. I remember now when you say Cajun Shrimp that is what it was and it is still a great coral by OPI. Thank for mentioning me and natural is more in than acrylic if you can wear it but not everyone can. XOXO
Cajun shrimp was it! I knew you would remember. I blame you for starting me on this obsession. Thanks for stopping by! XOXO
